The Castle Hill Bowling Alley and Business Centre was a landmark project by McPherson Smith King, conceived as an integrated leisure and commercial development in Sydney’s north-west growth corridor.

Commissioned by Bowl Australia (AMF Bowling), the project centred on a 28-lane bowling facility complemented by a family restaurant and generous on-site parking. Beyond its recreational function, the development incorporated upper-level commercial suites designed for hi-tech and light industrial tenants, reflecting a forward-thinking mixed-use approach that broadened the building’s commercial viability.

Architecturally, the design emphasised a clean, modern expression, articulated through bold massing and extensive glazed façades that bring natural light into both public and workspace areas. The building was conceived as a flexible business complex, allowing for adaptable tenancy configurations and evolving commercial uses over time.

The project responded to a client brief seeking a departure from conventional industrial units, delivering a distinctive, high-quality building that combined entertainment, workplace, and community functions within a unified architectural language.

Completed in 1999 and originally operating as AMF Bowling, the venue continues to serve the community today as Zone Bowling Castle Hill, demonstrating the longevity and adaptability of the original design.
