Usana Health Sciences, founded in 1992 by Dr. Myron Wentz, is a U.S.-based company that manufactures high-quality supplements, personal care, energy, and weight-management products. The companies Australian distributors required a professional Sydney headquarters, located in the Hills District.
McPherson Smith King Architects designed the extension and comprehensive transformation of USANA’s Castle Hill premises, creating an integrated facility that accommodates the company’s corporate, training, customer engagement and distribution operations.
The project reorganised the existing building and introduced substantial new office and warehouse accommodation across several levels. The lower floor establishes a welcoming public and corporate interface, incorporating a clearly defined reception and entry lobby, demonstration and presentation spaces, meeting rooms, an associates’ area, internet café and supporting administrative facilities. Behind these customer-focused spaces, the development connects directly with an expanded warehouse and loading area, enabling office and distribution functions to operate efficiently within a single facility.
The middle and upper floors provide a combination of open-plan work areas, enclosed offices, meeting and training rooms, staff breakout facilities and ancillary spaces. The planning balances opportunities for collaboration with quieter individual workplaces, while a coordinated system of stairs, lifts and shared circulation connects the different operational areas and levels.
Externally, the building was given a strong and recognisable architectural identity. A tall, angular glazed entrance element marks the principal arrival point and contrasts with the long horizontal composition of the office wing. Light-coloured panel cladding and regularly spaced vertical sunshade fins create depth, rhythm and shadow across the façade, moderating sunlight while allowing generous glazing and natural light to the offices. The result is a contemporary and professional workplace that unifies the company’s administrative, educational and logistical functions while presenting a confident public presence.
